Units, categories and brands
Units, categories and brands are short lists you pick from when you create items. New companies start with standard units, the category General and the brand No Brand. Add your own before adding items, or add them on the fly with the + buttons on the item form.
All three are under Products / Services, and work the same way: click Add, type the name, Save. Use the Action column to edit or delete.
Units
Products / Services › Units: the units you count items in, for example Piece, Box, Kg, Meter, Hour. New companies start with a standard list: Piece, Box, Carton, Pack, Dozen, Pair, Set, Bottle, Can, Bag, Roll, Tube, Strip, Tablet, Capsule, Kilogram, Gram, Liter, Milliliter, Meter, Square Meter and Hour. Delete the ones you don't use; a unit that items use can't be deleted.
- Unit names must be unique.
- A unit used by items or documents can't be deleted, and you must keep at least one unit.
- For items sold in several units (Box = 12 Piece), turn on Show Multiple Units in Preferences and add the extra units on the item. See Items.
Categories
Products / Services › Category: groups such as Drinks, Spare parts, Services. A category can have an image, which shows in the online shop.
- Reports such as Low Stock and the stock count can be filtered by category.
- A category used by items can't be deleted.
Brands
Products / Services › Brand: the maker or label of a product. A brand can have an image.
- A brand used by items can't be deleted.
Customer, supplier and asset categories
Customers (Sales › Customers Category), suppliers (Purchases › Suppliers Category) and fixed assets (Assets › Category of Assets) have their own category lists that work the same way.
